The formula
Output per day = output so far ÷ days completed
Pace needed = (goal − output so far) ÷ days remaining
Dividing by team size gives the per-member figures, which are the fairer comparison when headcount changes mid-period.
Worked example
Example: 840 units from a team of six over seven days is 120 a day, or 20 per person per day. With a goal of 1,800 and eight days left, the required pace is 120 a day, so the team is exactly on track.
Common questions
Should I measure per person or per team?
Both. The team figure tracks the goal; the per-person figure tells you whether a change came from effort or from headcount.
What if team size changed mid-period?
Use average headcount across the period, or split the calculation into segments where the team was stable.
Does this work for a therapy department?
For departmental output, yes. For individual clinicians, the therapist productivity calculator is the right tool, because it measures a proportion of paid time rather than a rate.
