The formula
Productivity % = treatment minutes ÷ paid minutes × 100
Paid minutes is your shift length with any unpaid break removed. Leaving a 30 minute unpaid break in an eight hour day divides by 480 instead of 450, so the percentage falls by 6.25% of itself. At 383 treatment minutes that is 383 ÷ 450 = 85.1% against 383 ÷ 480 = 79.8%, or 5.3 points.
Worked example
Example: an eight hour shift starting at 08:00 with a thirty minute unpaid lunch gives 450 paid minutes. Deliver 383 minutes of treatment and you are at 383 ÷ 450 = 85.1%. An 85% target needs 450 × 0.85 = 382.5 minutes, shown as 383, so that day lands on target. Because you are at target, the latest clock-out is the end of the shift, 16:00.
Common questions
Should the lunch break be included?
If it is unpaid, no. Remove it from paid time before dividing. If your employer pays through the break, it belongs in the denominator.
Does documentation count as billable?
Your employer's definition decides. Where notes are paid but not billable, they sit in the denominator and pull the percentage down.
Why does my facility report a different number?
Check the denominator first. Some systems use scheduled hours rather than worked hours, and some count billed units multiplied by fifteen instead of actual minutes.
