    The formula

Paid hours = total daily hours − (unpaid break × days worked)

The estimated pay treats any paid hours above 40 in the week at time and a half. That is the US federal overtime rule: non-exempt employees get at least time and a half for hours over 40 in a workweek. Other countries have different rules.

    Worked example

Example: five eight-hour days, Monday to Friday, with Saturday and Sunday at zero, is 40 hours before breaks. A 30-minute unpaid break each day removes 2.5 hours, leaving 37.50 paid hours and nothing over 40.

    Common questions

Does the break come off every day?

Only on days you worked. The calculator counts every day from Monday to Sunday with hours above zero.

    Can I enter weekend shifts?

Yes. Saturday and Sunday have their own boxes. Leave them at zero if you did not work them.

    Is the overtime figure reliable?

It is an estimate using the US federal rule of time and a half over 40 hours, which covers non-exempt employees. In the US, exemption depends on your duties and salary, not your job title. Other countries have different rules, and your contract also decides what you are paid.

    Can I use decimals?

Yes. Enter 7.75 for seven hours forty-five minutes, or 8.5 for eight and a half.
