The formula
Paid time = (finish − start) − unpaid break
If the finish time is earlier than the start time, the shift is treated as crossing midnight and 24 hours are added.
Worked example
Example: 08:00 to 16:30 is 8.50 hours at work. Remove a 30-minute unpaid lunch break and you are paid for 8.00 hours, or 480 minutes.
Common questions
Why does this matter for productivity?
Paid minutes are the number you divide by in the therapy productivity percentage. Take an 8-hour day at work with a 30-minute unpaid break (450 paid minutes) and 383 treatment minutes, a reading of 85.1%. Counting the break as paid time gives 480 minutes and a reading of 79.8%, 5.3 points lower.
Does it handle night shifts?
Yes. A finish time before the start time is read as the following day.
Should paid breaks be entered?
No. Only enter breaks you are not paid for. Paid breaks stay inside your paid time. In the US, short rest breaks of 5 to about 20 minutes count as paid hours worked.
